Fourteen West Lothian schools hit with coronavirus cases in just one week

A further 14 West Lothian schools have been hit with coronavirus cases in just one week.

West Lothian Council confirmed that the virus is still sweeping through schools, reports the Daily Record.

There have been one or more positive cases at the following high schools: Armadale Academy, Bathgate Academy, Broxburn Academy, Deans Community High School, Inveralmond Community High School, St Kentigern’s Academy, St Margaret’s Academy and West Calder High School.

Meanwhile Broxburn PS, Harrysmuir Primary School, Kirkhill PS and Westfield Nursery are among those with reported cases of the virus.

Parents and carers of pupils have been urged to keep kids home if they developed symptoms of Covid-19.

A West Lothian Council spokesperson said: “We would appeal to all West Lothian parents/carers and pupils to help us reducing the spread of Covid-19.

“Children should attend school as normal, unless one of the reason below apply:

“They are showing symptoms of covid-19 - a new, continuous cough; fever; or loss of, or change in, sense of smell or taste; someone in their household has the above symptoms; they are waiting for the results of a covid-19 test; they have been asked to isolate by Test and Protect; or they have returned to the UK from any country out with the exempt list in the last 14 days.

“Anyone who need specific advice on their situation concerning Covid-19 and attending school should call the NHS on 111. They can also speak to their school to discuss their situation in confidence.”

Despite the number of cases across West Lothian schools, official figures showed the rate of new infections stabilising in recent weeks.

Public Health Scotland data up to November 7 shows that West Lothian had 46 new cases, with 311 over a seven day period and 2547 since records began.

The 169 cases per 100,000 in the county is just above the national average of 150.
