Fourteen more people have died in Greater Manchester hospitals after testing positive for coronavirus

A further 14 people have died across Greater Manchester after contracting coronavirus.

The region's hospital death toll has now reached 2,356, the latest NHS figures show.

It comes as the government is expected to announce new lockdown measures next week as infection rates continue to rise.

Eight deaths were recorded across the Pennine Acute trust, which includes Fairfield General Hospital in Bury, North Manchester General Hospital, the Royal Oldham Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary.

A further four deaths occurred at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, with two across Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.

Across the country, a further 60 people have died after contracting the virus, with patients ranging from between 41 and 93 years old.

The NHS said the majority of the deceased had known underlying health conditions.

The total number of coronavirus deaths at hospital trusts in Greater Manchester, as of Saturday, October 10:

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust - 255

Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust - 9

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust - 483

NHS Nightingale Hospital North West - 6

Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust - 595

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust - 6

Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust - 197

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust - 238

Tameside & Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - 288

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - 14

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust - 265

As the pandemic continues, every day the NHS in England publishes the number of deaths recorded by each hospital trust in the last 24-hour period.

These represent deaths where the patient had tested positive for the virus, or where COVID-19 was mentioned on their death certificate.

These daily figures sometimes include previously uncounted deaths that took place several days, or even weeks ago.

They do not include deaths in care homes or community settings.
