Fournette says he removed some of the ‘bad people’ from his life for the sake of his career

So far, it’s been a solid offseason for Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette. He’s come into camp in shape, dropped some weight for more agility, has been a help to the team’s younger tailbacks and has taken extra measures to learn the playbook.

However, there were also other measures he took off the field, too. In an interview with Sirius XM Radio, Fournette talked about getting the wrong people out of his life to help him avoid any distractions. He also discussed what he did in the offseason to get at his current weight of 228 pounds.

“I just tried to focus on my personal life,” Fournette said to Sirius XM’s NFL crew. “Getting the bad people out of my life, focusing on myself so I won’t have to worry about no problems coming into the season or even coming into camp. I know football is going to take care of itself if I put mind into it and work hard every day. It’s really the personal things, just trying to be in a better place.”

Clearly, Fournette understands that he’s heading into a big year after a disappointing 2018 campaign in which he missed almost half of the season with a hamstring injury (and a suspension) and had an incident with Jags executive Tom Coughlin. Evidently, there were also some people in his life who weren’t helping him make strides to becoming a better player — and if so — it’s a wise move on his part to remove those people from his circle.
