Four youths arrested as teenage girl fights for life after double stabbing

A 16-year-old girl is fighting for her life and a second teenager has been hurt in a horrific double stabbing.

Police found the two girls aged 16 and 17 suffering from stab injuries after they were called to reports of an assault in West Norwood, south London, on Sunday just after 4.30pm.

Both girls were rushed to a hospital where the 16-year-old's condition is being treated as life-threatening.

Police are awaiting an assessment of the second girl’s condition. Four boys, all aged between 16 and 17, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and are in police custody.

A witness said on Twitter they had seen a teenage stab victim 'bleeding' through their clothes on the pavement as they drove through the area, MyLondon reports.

Other eyewitnesses said an air ambulance 'landed on top of B&Q' in the area before carrying away a stab victim.

Helen Hayes the Labour MP for Dulwich and West Norwood tweeted: "Appalled to hear of the stabbing of two teenage girls on Norwood Road this afternoon.

"My thoughts are with both victims, at least one of whom has life threatening injuries, and their families. If you have any information please contact @CrimestoppersUK anonymously #westnorwood."

Det Sgt Rob Merrett, of the Metropolitan Police Central South Command Unit, said: "This is a shocking incident involving two young female victims, one of whom remains seriously ill in hospital. It has understandably caused considerable alarm in the community.

“Officers responded immediately when the 999 call was received. Two boys were quickly apprehended near the scene, and urgent enquiries led to two other males being arrested later on at addresses in Lambeth.

“All four are now in custody and my team are conducting a thorough investigation to establish what has led to this unacceptable violence. I urge anyone who has information, pictures and video that could assist us to make contact immediately. It is imperative that we work with the community to fully establish what has happened here and bring any offenders to justice."

Anyone with information is asked to call police via 101 quoting reference Cad 4970/25Apr.
