Four youths arrested after attack on cyclist and car driver in south Edinburgh

Police have arrested four 15-year-old boys after they were allegedly seen "slapping and attacking" a 21-year-old cyclist at Hunters Tryst roundabout in south Edinburgh on Tuesday lunchtime (30 July).

Bystanders who reported the incident to police posted on a local Facebook community group that a "big group of bairns" had apparently been seen slapping the cyclist, and that they then attacked him after he got off his bike.

It's said that a car then stopped to help the cyclist , however the eyewitness claimed that when the driver got out of his car "(the youths) attacked him and jumped all over his car and him."

Around 60 people shared their thoughts underneath the original Facebook post, with one woman saying:

"That is just awful, must have been terrifying for the cyclist and helper."

A police spokesperson told Edinburgh Live:

"Four male youths, all aged 15, have been charged in connection with this incident. We attended to Oxgangs Road at around 1.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 30th). The 21-year-old cyclist was not seriously injured."
