Four-year-old child on skateboard dies after being hit by van in Surrey

A four-year-old skateboarder has died after being hit by a van in Surrey.

The child, who has not been identified, was knocked over by a Mercedes Sprinter on a quiet residential road in Oxted.

Emergency services, including paramedics and the air ambulance attended the scene at around 10.40am on Sunday.

The youngster was taken to North East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, but was pronounced dead at 12.05pm.

Surrey Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision on The Hollies in Hurst Green. 

“The child is believed to have been riding a skateboard at the time of the incident,” the force said in a statement.

“We are appealing for anyone who saw what happened, or may have any dashcam or CCTV footage of the incident, to come forward as a matter of urgency. 

“If you can help, please call us on 101.”
