Four year old boy rushed to hospital after being hit by car in the street

A little boy was rushed to hospital after being hit by a car in the street.

Emergency services were called to Rodney Street, in Birkenhead, shortly before 5pm on Monday after reports of a crash.

The four-year-old was knocked down by a Toyota Yaris when he was reportedly playing outside his home.

Police officers quickly put a road closure in place around the scene of the crash and paramedics began treating the boy.

Crowds gathered in the road to check on the child before the ambulance left the area a short time later.

After the paramedics left with the boy, Merseyside Police confirmed that he had suffered a leg injury and would receive treatment at hospital.

The driver of the car involved stopped at the scene and is helping police with their investigation.

A spokesperson for the force told the ECHO: "We were contacted at 4.40pm today, Monday 1 June, following reports of a collision between a four year-old boy and a car in Birkenhead.

"Officers were called to Rodney Street following reports of the collision involving a Toyota Yaris.

"The boy has been taken to hospital with a leg injury.

"The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is helping with enquiries.
