Four-year-old Ayshire boy signs up for litter picking group to keep animals safe

Four-year-old JJ Trotter is helping keep his Castlepark community gleaming with daily litter picks.

The selfless youngster wants more people to keep wildlife habitats safe from plastics.

Proud mum Louisa said: “We started helping out about a month ago.

“JJ gets really upset when he sees rubbish lying around and is worried about the animals and their homes which can be destroyed by litterbugs.

“We use our daily walks to pick up unsightly messes, it’s not difficult but it was really lovely for JJ to receive some recognition for his efforts.”

A mystery fan of JJ’s litterpicks dropped off a present to thank the toddler for all of his hard work.

Louisa added: “It was really sweet for JJ to be rewarded. The gift giver never left a name on the tag, but we are very grateful for the selection box which JJ shared with both myself and his dad.”

Irvine Clean Up Crew chair Sandra Hughes said: “JJ is one of our youngest volunteers at Irvine Clean up crew. He is totally inspirational and puts many of our adults to shame. It’s great to see his work being appreciated - he’s a superstar.”

Word of JJ’s amazing work has even reached Santa Claus.

Sandra added: “We’ve had a donation from Santa himself to make sure that every child who picks litter in Irvine gets a wee parcel at Christmas.”

Speaking from the North Pole, Santa said: “JJ has been a very good boy and is definitely on my nice list this year. Ruldolph was especially happy when I told him how JJ is helping to keep animals safe this winter.

“I hope other boys and girls will follow JJ’s example and help the Irvine Clean Up Crew keep their town nice and tidy so my reindeer can land safely next Friday.”
