Four workers at Hinkley Point C power station in self-isolation over coronavirus fears

Four workers at Hinkley Point C power station in Somerset have gone into self-isolation due to fears over coronavirus.

It comes as two returned to the EDF Energy-run power station being built near Bridgwater from northern Italty and Tenerife.

A spokesman for the company confirmed both were currently in self-isolation as a precaution, as reported by Somerset Live.

Two housemates of the worker, who returned from northern Italy are also in self-isolation. They also work at Hinkley Point C.

Advice is also being given to other workers at the power station.

Hundreds of workers are at the site constructing two nuclear reactors which are set to start generating electricity from 2026.

The spokesman for Hinkley Point said: "Following advice from Public Health England and as a precaution, four members of the Hinkley Point C workforce have self-isolated - one returning from Northern Italy and two of his housemates and one employee returning from Tenerife.

"We have issued protective advice to staff advising them on the common-sense precautions we can all take to minimise our individual risks.

"We are assessing risks associated with any staff travel and continue to closely monitor the situation."

The Foreign Office's travel advice warns against all but essential travel to 11 quarantined towns in Italy.

Four cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Tenerife.

The UK Foreign Office has updated their latest travel advice for Brits heading to Spain.

The Foreign Office said: "The Spanish authorities are dealing with confirmed cases of Coronavirus in the H10 Costa Adeje Palace Hotel in Tenerife. If you’re in this hotel, you should follow the advice of the local authorities."

It is not known where the members of staff at Hinkley Point had travelled to exactly, but a spokesman has said that every precaution is being followed.
