Some of Wirral’s main libraries are reopening today, as cases of Covid-19 continue to decline.
Throughout the pandemic, readers have been able to access the library online and since last August they have been able to collect books ordered online.
However, from today people will be allowed to enter four of the borough’s council-run libraries to browse once again.
The four libraries which will be reopening in Wirral are Bebington Central, Birkenhead Central, Wallasey Central and West Kirby.
Things will look slightly different, as the layout of the libraries has been changed to comply with government guidelines.
Wirral Council warned people that they may need to queue if things get busy, due to the need to limit the number of people inside in order to maintain social distancing.
It is also important to remember that all children under eight years old must be accompanied by an adult.
All four libraries will continue to provide the order and collect service. For those who prefer to continue getting their books this way, orders can be placed here.
The online service for eBooks, eAudio, eMagazines, art collections, encyclopaedia or other services such as Find My Past will also be maintained.
Wirral is continuing to open up as low Covid-19 case numbers provide reassurance that it can be done safely.
After a short period of rising case numbers, Wirral is seeing its infection rate fall.
In the latest figures, which cover the week up to May 19, the borough registered 14 cases at a rate of 4.32 per 100,000.
That is a significant fall on the 29 cases at a rate of 8.95 per 100,000 recorded in the previous week.
