Four who tried to flee from stolen car after police chase arrested...one of them fell and is in hospital

Four men have been arrested for driving offences and breaching Covid-19 restrictions following a police chase through Tameside.

Police began to pursue a car they suspected was a stolen vehicle in Tameside.

A short time later it was found abandoned and the police officers pursued the offenders on foot.

During the pursuit, a 23-year-old man fell and suffered a leg injury, near to Lower Bennett Street, in Hyde.

He was taken to hospital.

A teenager, aged 19, and two other men were later arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and handling stolen goods.

They are also being held on suspicion of possessing controlled drugs and breaching Covid-19 restrictions.

All three remain in police custody for questioning.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 8.05am on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, police engaged in short pursuit after sighting a suspected stolen vehicle in Tameside.

"A short time later, the vehicle was abandoned and the pursuit continued on foot.

"During the foot pursuit, a 23-year-old man fell and sustained a leg injury. He was taken to hospital. His injuries are not life threatening.

"Four men, aged 19, 23 and 28, were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, handling stolen goods, possessing controlled drugs and breaching Covid-19 restrictions.

"They remain in police custody for questioning."
