Four players from Argentine top-flight club Vélez Sarsfield have been arrested in connection with a rape case. The players involved are goalkeeper Sebastián Sosa, defender Braian Cufré, midfielder José Ignacio Florentín, and striker Abiel Osorio.
The arrests came following a request from case prosecutor María Eugenia Posse in San Miguel de Tucumán, located 1,200 kilometers (745 miles) north of Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina.
The alleged victim reported that on March 3, she agreed to meet one of the players in a hotel room, where she found three other men present. She stated that she consumed alcohol with the players, fell asleep in one of the beds, and was subsequently raped.
According to the victim's lawyer, Patricia Neme, Sosa initiated contact with her client and invited her to the hotel. Sosa has denied any wrongdoing in relation to the incident.
Vélez Sarsfield has taken swift action in response to the arrests, suspending the contracts of all four footballers involved. In a statement, the club expressed deep concern over the allegations, emphasizing that the reported actions are contrary to the principles and values upheld by the institution.
