Nottingham Forest could go back in for these transfer targets this summer

It is not yet known when Nottingham Forest's season will resume, or when the subsequent summer transfer window will open.

The Reds will hope when it does, they will be planning for life in the Premier League as they aim for promotion under Sabri Lamouchi.

But whichever division they find themselves in, Forest are likely to want to strengthen their squad when they get the chance.

Twelve signings came through the door last summer and a further four additions were made in January - including the recall of striker Tyler Walker from his loan spell at Lincoln City.

The club had a number of targets who did not come off, though, as well as plenty who they were linked with. So could the Reds revisit those players in time for 2020/21?

We’ve had a look at some of those players and what their current situation is.

Eddie Nketiah

The 20-year-old was very much on Forest’s radar in January, although they were not the only ones chasing his signature.

Having been brought back from his loan at Leeds United, it was eventually decided the young forward would remain at parent club Arsenal for the rest of the season.

And he’s been getting his chance with the Gunners, making seven appearances and scoring three goals.

He seems to have impressed boss Mikel Arteta, but it will be interesting to see if the Premier League giants think another loan spell would be best for Nketiah next term.

Che Adams

Another forward who the Reds - and a number of other clubs - had an interest in back in January.

The 23-year-old ended up going nowhere and remains at Southampton.

But he’s continued to struggle for regular game time with the Saints, with just four substitute appearances in the Premier League since the end of January.

He has yet to find the back of the net this season, so could a fresh start elsewhere be the answer?

Jack Colback

After two successful loan spells at the City Ground, Forest did target bringing the midfielder back for a third time last summer - although that was when Martin O’Neill was still in charge.

Colback was left out of Newcastle United’s 25-man Premier League squad for the season, so has not played a competitive game in almost a year - when he played for the Reds in a 2-0 defeat at Sheffield United last April.

He’s out of contract this summer, so would be available as a free agent.

His wages were said to be a stumbling block for some of his admirers last year, however.

Scott McKenna

The Reds were one of a number of sides to try to prise the defender away from Aberdeen last summer, putting forward an offer believed to be in the region of £3m.

The 23-year-old even handed in a transfer request on deadline day, but ended up staying put in Scotland.

And despite plenty of speculation, it was the same again in January.

He suffered a hamstring tear in February and was initially set to miss the rest of the campaign, but could well now be back when games resume.
