Four toddlers rushed to Irish hospitals with coronavirus over last week

Four toddlers have been rushed to Irish hospitals with coronavirus in the space of a week, new figures show.

The latest incidents were revealed in statistics released by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.

The newest data covers the period up to Monday, October 12, and it shows that 38 kids in total under the age of four have been hospitalised with Covid-19.

This is a rise of four since the previous Monday.

The exact age, gender, location or condition of the patients has not been released by health officials due to patient's right to privacy.

In the last week, 141 further children under four have tested positive for the bug.

And it has also emerged that another person under the age of 34 has sadly died from Covid-19.

They are the seventh person in the 25-34 age bracket to pass away from the disease in Ireland since the pandemic began.

Overall, the majority of deaths here have been in patients over the age of 65.

The hardest-hit age bracket remains the 85+ demographic, which has seen 678 deaths.
