Four to watch ahead of Newcastle United's Papa John's Trophy clash at Bolton Wanderers

Newcastle United's talented teenager Elliot Anderson will be back in action tonight in the club's final Papa John's Trophy game of the season at Bolton Wanderers.

Anderson has been training with the first-team this season and gets the chance to impress against the Trotters this evening at the Bolton University Stadium.

Just 12 months ago, Anderson scored his first senior goal with a header in a 2-1 defeat at Port Vale but he heads to the North West knowing he is nudging closer to a first-team debut.

However, there will be some other exciting youngsters on show tonight against Wanderers in Group C.

Stan Flaherty has impressed in Under-23s action (Gett)

The 18-year-old has impressed in the Under-23s this season and scored recent last gasp winners against Fulham and Leeds United.

His tally is four goals in seven matches from an attacking midfield position to shine in the second string.

Flaherty was released by Arsenal but has found a home on Tyneside and Steve Bruce has watched on from the stands when time allows to witness his progress.

Niall Brookwell

The midfielder arrived from Liverpool on a free transfer in the summer and can play central midfield, anchor man or centre-back.

The 18-year-old Wigan-born player had a range of options after leaving Anfield before opting for a switch to Newcastle.

He had been with Liverpool since the Under-9 Academy stage but is enjoying pastures new at United.

Dylan Stephenson

Still only just 17, the youngster appeared in the competition twice this season at Crewe and Shrewsbury.

The right-winger scored an impressive eight goals in 14 matches for Newcastle's Under-18s and has been promoted to the Under-23s.

Stephenson made his debut under Neil Redfearn in the second string in the Premier League Cup in a 1-0 win over Hull City.

This season he has the chance to kick on under Chris Hogg and Peter Ramage.
