Four things spotted in Man City training as Leroy Sane shown no mercy

Manchester City players trained for the first time as a squad since March on Saturday after Premier League clubs passed a vote to return to full-contact training.

City haven't played since the 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on March 8 after the season was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Players are now back in full training ahead of a proposed restart of the league, with City potentially facing Arsenal on June 17.

Here are four things we spotted from Pep Guardiola's session at the CFA on Saturday.

Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri try a new challenge

The squad seemed in great spirits, presumably glad to be back to business. While waiting for the session to start, Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri attempted a new challenge, combining keepy-ups with a forward roll.

De Bruyne kept the ball up three times before launching it high into the air and attempting to complete a forward roll before it landed. The Belgian was unsuccessful but his attempt was much better than Rodri's as the Spaniard hilariously failed to get back to his feet after a sloppy forward roll.

Aymeric Laporte also joined in on the antics before the session got underway.

Full contact in full effect

There could be no doubt that Guardiola's players received the green light for full contact as challenges flew in left, right and centre.

Bernardo Silva slid in to challenge Fernandinho and inadvertently took out his teammate Raheem Sterling and also flew into a tackle on Leroy Sane. Sterling then barged over Riyad Mahrez as the Algerian ran through on goal before the winger repaid the favour later on.

Sane and Sterling were injured for City before the season was paused so the force of the challenges they were subjected to is a solid indicator that they're both fully fit.

Oleksandr Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo both went to ground during the match and the levels of aggression on show hinted that City will be raring to go against the Gunners.

Guardiola has new options

For the first time this season, Guardiola had zero injury worries to contend with during his session.

Sane and Sterling looked razor sharp, while Laporte was also back iafter suffering an injury in the Champions League win against Real Madrid.

Coaches wear protective equipment

City reported zero positive tests during the first phase of testing for the virus but the coaching staff are taking no risks during the sessions.

Guardiola and his coaches were spotted wearing masks and gloves as they conducted their training drills.

Former City assistant manager Mikel Arteta revealed he had contracted the coronavirus back in March which resulted in City's game against Arsenal being postponed.
