Liverpool will aim to pull off a remarkable European comeback when they entertain Real Madrid at Anfield.
The Reds are 3-1 down from the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final following a poor performance in the Spanish capital last week.
Jurgen Klopp put his players through their paces at Kirkby late on Tuesday afternoon before the game on Wednesday night.
But what could be gleaned from the session?
Duo still absent
Liverpool are slap bang in the middle of a run of six games in 22 days that will shape the remainder of their season.
And the aches and strains of such a hectic period towards the end of a condensed campaign continue to be felt.
Curtis Jones, who had a muscle problem, and Divock Origi missed Saturday's win over Aston Villa.
Both were again not to be seen as the players were put through their paces at the AXA Training Centre.
Alisson absence explained
Jones and Origi weren't the only notable absentees from the session, with skipper Jordan Henderson still out and the centre-back trio of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip continuing their rehabilitation elsewhere.
Caoimhin Kelleher remains on the sidelines, although fellow goalkeepers Adrian, Jakub Ojrzynski and Harvey Davies were all present.
And alarm bells were temporarily sounded when Alisson Becker wasn't initially caught on camera.
However, it emerged there was no problem with the Brazilian, who is expected to feature against Real.
Academy given chance
Liverpool's injuries gave an opportunity for a number of Academy players to take part in the session.
Leighton Clarkson, who appeared in the group stage, and Jake Cain, named in every Champions League matchday squad, were at Kirkby.
And so too were U23s regular Ben Woodburn and highly-rated U18 star Mateusz Musialowski.
For Musialowski in particular, it was another notable step forward in a fledgling career.
Birthday boy
Neco Williams hasn't seen many minutes for the Liverpool first team in recent months.
And while he can expect bench duty at best on Wednesday, final preparations for the game were nevertheless notable for the Welshman.
With the session coinciding with his teenage years having come to an end, Williams was given the traditional training ground salute of being wished a happy 20th birthday in every language of those in the Liverpool squad.
Needless to say, the start of the workout was delayed a bit...
