Four teenagers from Manchester arrested on suspicion of murder following 'hit and run' in Lancashire still in custody

Four teenagers from Manchester arrested following a suspected 'hit-and-run' in Lancashire remain in police custody.

A man and a woman, both 18, and two girls, aged 16 and 17, were arrested on Thursday afternoon.

All four are from Manchester.

It comes after a man, in his 40s, was 'dragged under a vehicle' by youths in Kirkham, between Blackpool and Preston, yesterday.

He died after the incident.

Officers were called to Freckleton Street following an incident shortly after 4pm.

One witness said the man was 'dragged' under the vehicle of four youths.

The incident reportedly took place following a verbal altercation between the man and the group, according to reports from LancsLive.

Police believe the man was then hit by a car that left the scene.

A short time later officers stopped a Nissan Micra between junctions six and five of the M61, near Bolton.

The four arrested teenagers remain in custody for questioning and police continue to investigate.

Police have contacted the deceased’s next of kin and the family will be offered the support of specially trained officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Eric Halford, of West CID, said in a statement last night: “We are in the very early stages of what is clearly an extremely serious incident which has resulted in a man losing his life.

“While we have made a number of arrests our enquiries are very much on-going and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed these events or who has any information which could assist our investigation to come forward and speak to us.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log number 1068 of Thursday (July 18).

Alternatively, information can be reported anonymously via Crimestoppers UK on 0800 555 111.
