Four taken to hospital with serious injuries after horror crash in Audenshaw

Four people were taken to hospital with serious injuries following a crash in Tameside.

The smash, said to have involved two cars, happened on Shepley Road in Audenshaw, at around 10.20pm on Wednesday (January 6).

A woman who lives on Shepley Road said she heard a 'loud bang' before emergency services arrived.

The road was closed between the junctions with Cemetry Road and Globe Lane, close to the border with Dukinfield, with police, fire crews and paramedics seen at the scene.

Two people were trapped in one of the vehicles and had to be rescued by firefighters, who using specialist cutting equipment, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, (GMFRS) said.

Two others escaped themselves, fire chiefs added.

Four people were taken to hospital with 'serious injuries', the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said.

No more details have been released.

The Manchester Evening News has contacted Greater Manchester Police (GMP) for comment.

A spokesman for NWAS said: "We received a call of an RTC at 22:23. We sent multiple resources to the scene including 4 ambulances, 4 members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), a response vehicle, an advanced paramedic, and an incident commander.

"Two patients were trapped and had to be released from the vehicles and we have taken four patients to hospital in total with serious injuries."

A spokesperson for GMFRS said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Shepley Road, Audenshaw, at 10.21pm on Wednesday, 6 January.

“Fire engines from Ashton-under-Lyne and Hyde, along with the technical response unit from Leigh, quickly attended the scene. The collision involved two vehicles.

“Two casualties were rescued from one vehicle by firefighters using specialist cutting equipment, a hearth kit and lighting.

"A further two self-rescued before the fire service arrived at the scene.

"All four were transferred to the care of colleagues from North West Ambulance Service."

“Fire crews were in attendance for approximately one hour and 15 minutes.”

The road remained closed for several hours whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.
