Four Sunderland players named in the EFL League One team of the season

Four Sunderland players have been named in the League One team of the season.

Top scorer Charlie Wyke was joined by goalkeeper Lee Burge, defender Luke O'Nien and winger Aiden McGeady in the best XI picked by a panel for the EFL awards.

Wyke has dominated the goalscoring charts this term, bagging 25 goals this term in the league alone.

O'Nien has been outstanding in a variety of positions for the Black Cats, and has provided invaluable cover in the centre of defence after the likes of Jordan Willis, Bailey Wright, Tom Flanagan and Dion Sanderson have suffered long-term injuries.

McGeady won his place back in the side following Phil Parkinson's sacking and his creativity has been vital in Sunderland's promotion push, while Burge caught the eye with a series of important saves, most notably two penalty stops in the same game against Doncaster.

Wyke was nominated for the League One player of the year, but lost out to Peterborough's Jonson Clarke-Harris, while club captain Grant Leadbitter was among the nominees for EFL goal of the season. although the award was won by Lee Novak of Bradford City.

Hull City's Grant McCann won the manager of the year, while Port Vale were voted the Community Club of the year, in a category Sunderland had been nominated.
