Four college students killed in Chickballapur car accident

Four students of a private college were killed when the car they were travelling in lost control and fell into a ditch near the highway underpass on the outskirts of Chickballapur on the night of Saturday, December 10.

The deceased have been identified as Pawan, 22, Vasanth, 21, Aryan, 22, and Tyagore, 21. The victims were on their way to Pawan’s grandmother’s house. Pawan, who owned the car, was said to be driving, and they had almost reached the destination, when he lost control of the vehicle and fell into the ditch adjacent to Amani Lake. An ambulance driver passing by noticed the accident and alerted the police control room.

The police, along with the Fire and Emergency Services personnel and passers-by, rushed to help and used a crane to pull out the car before shifting the victims to the hospital, where the doctors declared them as brought dead.

The Chickballapur traffic police are awaiting the postmortem report and the vehicle inspection report for further investigations.

Initial probe revealed that speeding could be the reason, but the exact reason will be known only after the completion of the investigation, a police officer said.
