Four strikers West Ham were linked with in January that could make a summer transfer move

West Ham were linked with a host of players during the January transfer window - they are every window, lets be honest - after Marko Arnautovic declared his intentions to leave the club.

That never happened and the Austrian eventually penned a one-year extension to his contract on increased bonuses and incentives, but he hasn't found the net for his club since January.

The rumour mill went into overdrive after Arnautovic's brother and agent, Danijel, effectively demanded West Ham sell the Austrian in light of a £30.1m bid from an unnamed Chinese Super League club. That was nowhere near the club's £40m valuation of the striker and he stayed in the capital.

Had a £40m bid gone in, it would have been accepted and the 29-year-old would have been on his way to the Far East.

The starting eleven changes Pellegrini could make when West Ham face Leicester City

The only signing in January that West Ham made was that of Samir Nasri, who joined on a short-term contract as a free agent having been out of the game for more than a year after a doping ban. He's only featured six times since then thanks to building up fitness but also struggling with a troublesome calf.

West Ham are expected to be fairly busy once the season ends but it certainly won't match the £89m spent on transfers last summer. The club also needs to sell before they can really splash out and the strategy has changed too as the Hammers will look to spend on younger players with bigger fees but less wages.

Cast your mind back to January and who the Hammers were linked with (the names should ring a bell) so could we see a repeat of that at the end of this season?

Maxi Gomez

We did say the names would ring a bell.

Gomez was a priority target in the January window but with Celta Vigo battling relegation from La Liga, didn't want to lose their prized asset. Things haven't changed from a Hammers perspective, the Uruguayan is their number one target this summer.

Should Celta not beat the drop from La Liga, they could scoop up Gomez for £24m as opposed to the £40m they were quoted in January for his services.

West Ham are expected to overhaul their striker department this summer and Gomez could be one player to fill one of the potential gaps.

Aleksandar Mitrovic

The Fulham striker was one of the first names mentioned when Arnautovic decided he'd had enough and his name won't go away. Football.London understands that the Serbian striker is on the Hammers wishlist.

Especially now that Fulham have been relegated from the Premier League, Mitrovic is likely to leave. However, he won't come cheap as he has proved himself as a good top flight striker with ten goals this season, though he has struggled in the second half.

Mitrovic is arguably a better version of Andy Carroll but does he really fit the mould for Pellegrini? At the price being thrown around, perhaps not, but the Hammers are expected to test the waters this summer.

Moussa Marega

The Porto striker's name has been floated around with a move to West Ham many times before and it was back in January as well as the Hammers scoured the market for a new striker.

Reports in Portugal claimed that a West Ham representative was watching Porto at the weekend and may well have been looking at Marega and has a release clause of £34.1 million. That's a figure that the Hammers are unlikely to pay, even if he has hit 18 goals in all competitions this season.

The Malian striker is out of contract at the end of next season so the Hammers could well get him a bit cheaper than his release clause.

Edin Dzeko

The Roma forward has been linked with West Ham ever since Manuel Pellegrini, his former manager at Man City, took over the reigns in east London.

However, reports recently that the club have agreed a move and a £165,000 a week contract is absolute nonsense. There is no way the Hammers will be paying those kind of wages.

Dzeko has hit 13 goals for Roma this season and is out of contract in 2020 and has reportedly indicated he will seek to leave the Stadio Olimpico if he is not offered fresh terms.
