A guest at a four-star hotel was horrified after her dinner was served to her on a rusty plate that looked like a bin lid.
Ossie Stewart ordered a plate of Nachos to her room and had just eaten a few when she removed the paper slip underneath them to reveal a foul, corroded metal plate, Edinburgh Live reports.
Feeling sick, she spoke to the manager of the hotel about it but claimed the response ‘very blasé' though a spokesman has since apologised for the incident.
"I'd been eating it for a while when I realised,” Ossie said. “I actually felt a bit sick on seeing what I had been eating from.”
"I waited until the morning to speak to a manager after the treatment I had had from the woman on reception that evening.
“When I did speak to a manager he was fine and removed the item from my bill, but even his attitude didn't seem bothered about it, it was very blasé.
"It was more the attitude that bothered me, you would not expect a chef in a four-star hotel to be serving meals up on that. The hotel is right at the airport and it doesn't give a great impression of Scottish tourism or hospitality, which is usually great."
Ossie, from Montrose, had arrived the Moxy at Edinburgh Airport on April 24 and stayed one night before travelling further south.
After staying at the hotel's branch in Aberdeen on multiple occasions, she had booked the room with the belief that she would have a comfortable, easy night's stay.
But when Ossie was picked up by a colleague to leave she discovered he had been charged a £100 fine for waiting in the hotel car park while she was dealing with the nachos incident.
"My colleague had arrived ten minutes early to pick me up, and because I was having that conversation with the manager while checking out, he ended up waiting around 20 minutes," she said.
"I was mortified to hear he had been fined after trying to do me a favour, again I phoned the hotel to sort it and although they said they would sort it, it was that same blasé attitude, which you just don't expect."
A Moxy Edinburgh Airport spokesperson said: "As soon as the issue was raised with us, we immediately apologised for this genuine mistake, and refunded our guest’s meal and waived the parking fee.
"We agree that this dish was not in an acceptable condition, the discolouration of the dish was obscured by the liner on which the food is served.
"This clearly not reflective our normal high standards and we have now offered her a free night at the hotel in order to experience our usual level of hospitality and naturally to say sorry.
"All our dishes have been re-checked, and these stainless steel platters have been removed from service.
"We always want our guests to have a great time when they stay with us, so we take all concerns seriously and will speak to our team on duty during this time."
