BHUBANESWAR: The ministry of youth affairs and sports has sanctioned four sports infrastructure projects in Odisha under Khelo India scheme. While one project is completed, others are under construction. Sports minister Anurag Singh Thakur said this in a reply to Rajya Sabha member Mamata Mohanta on Monday.
Thakur said sports being a state subject, the responsibility of creating sports infrastructure rests with the state governments. Centre supplements efforts of the state or union territory governments for bridging gaps in sports infrastructure.
According to the data supplied by the ministry, 40 per cent work of the construction of multipurpose indoor hall in Kalinga Stadium Sports Complex, Bhubaneswar, has been completed so far. This project was sanctioned on March 9, 2017. Out of Rs 8 crore sanctioned amount, Rs 3.5 crore has been spent so far.
Work of construction of a swimming pool at district headquarters, Boudh, has been completed. This project was sanctioned on September 27, 2017. Out of Rs 5 crore sanctioned amount, Rs 1.25 crore has been utilised so far.
The Centre has sanctioned construction of a multipurpose indoor hall at Puri on July 20, 2017. Out of Rs 7.5 crore sanctioned amount, Rs 1.62 crore has been spent. Only 50 per cent of the project work has been completed. Similarly, 60 percent of construction of a multipurpose indoor hall at district sports complex, Burla, has been completed so far. This project was sanctioned on December 22, 2017. Out of Rs 7.5 crore sanctioned fund, only Rs 3.75 crore has been utilised for this project.
