Four shootings and brutal murder plague Merseyside over tragic Bank Holiday weekend

Four shootings and a brutal murder have plagued Merseyside over a tragic Bank Holiday weekend.

As the majority of people remained at home this Easter due to the ongoing lockdown, violent criminals continued as normal.

Gunmen opened fire on multiple homes, a car and a primary school before a teenager was stabbed to death in broad daylight on Monday.

The shocking incidents put extra strain on police and NHS staff who are working harder than normal to keep people safe during the coronavirus crisis.

Neighbours in the areas affected have spoken out in disgust at the attacks while many have already begun paying tribute to the 18-year-old killed on Bank Holiday Monday.

Here are just some of the disgraceful crimes to have taken place in Merseyside from Good Friday to Easter Monday.

Emergency services were called to Vincent Road, in Litherland, shortly after 2.30pm on Easter Monday to reports an 18-year-old man had been stabbed in the chest.

Paramedics rushed the young man to hospital where he died a short time later.

Police officers quickly launched a murder investigation and have arrested a 17-year-old male on suspicion of murder and have taken him for questioning.

The Bank Holiday killing comes just a matter of days after 20-year-old Michael Rainsford was gunned down in his kitchen just two streets away on Harrington Road.

It is not yet clear whether the murder investigations are being linked but Litherland was flooded with armed police for the second time since April 7.

Gunman opens fire at Merseyside primary school

On Easter Sunday a gunman opened fire on an empty primary school before the grounds were flooded by armed police.

Officers were called to Rimrose Hope Church of England Primary School, on Sandy Road in Seaforth, at around 6.30pm after a call from staff.

Staff from the school went to the primary school just before 6pm after a security alert.

The ground were inspected and the staff member discovered damage to a shutter that was closed over one of the doors.

No one is reported to have been injured in the shooting but an investigation is still ongoing.

A gunman opened fire on a home decorated with children's drawings supporting the NHS over Easter weekend.

Police were called to Finborough Road, in Walton, after multiple shots were fired at a house shortly before midnight on Saturday.

It is believed that the shooter fired on the house despite obvious signs that children may live there.

No-one was injured but the attack left bullet holes clearly visible in the front door of the home.

Two shootings on Beechwood estate see homes and car targeted

Shortly after 11pm on Good Friday armed police were called to the Beechwood estate in Wirral after reports that shots had been fired.

As neighbours described hearing was sounded like "thunder" or "fireworks" police discovered gunshot damage to a home on Beechwood Drive.

Later, officers also found a car parked three miles away on Crutchley Avenue in Birkenhead.

It was initially believed that two homes on Beechwood Drive, at the junction with Farmfield Drive, had been damaged by a gunshot but forensic officers later confirmed that only one had been shot at.

Despite the damaged car being parked on Crutchley Avenue, it is not yet clear whether it was damaged while there or earlier in the evening.

Officers so believe the incidents are linked.

No injuries were reported from the incidents but two men were arrested on Saturday on suspicion of possessing a firearm.

The 32-year-old and 34-year-old men are currently being questioned by police.

Anyone with information about the above incidents is asked to contact Merseyside Police by calling 101 or message @MerPolCC on Twitter.
