Drivers faced a night of hell on the M62 tonight as four separate accidents caused hours of chaos.
A multi-vehicle crash at Denshaw closed three lanes on the eastbound carriageway just after 3pm - causing miles of queues and 80-minute delays.
Then at just after 5pm there were two crashes at junction 27 of the westbound carriageway - closing it completely.
The first crash - a serious incident involving a Nissan Micra and a Vauxhall Astra - resulted in a motorist being cut from a vehicle.
Another nearby was less serious.
However the road was closed for over an hour as emergency services worked at the scene and drivers were delayed for over two-and-a-half hours.
Finally, at just after 7.30pm another crash and a broken-down lorry closed three lanes at junction 28 westbound for nearly an hour - causing delays into the night.
