Four Real Madrid players Zinedine Zidane could sign for Manchester United

Could further change be on the horizon at Manchester United?

Having finished as runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League last season, those key figures responsible for transfers at Old Trafford issued a triple statement of intent during the summer window - signing Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

Varane (when fit) and Ronaldo have underlined their quality to the United cause, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his position in the dugout remains far from definitive.

Solskjaer appears set to take charge against Watford on Saturday afternoon amid mounting pressure.

Antonio Conte was mooted as one potential successor, before settling on Tottenham, while Brendan Rodgers and former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane continue to be linked with the Old Trafford hot-seat.

Here are four Real players that the Frenchman could sign if he does, ultimately, step in to replace Solskjaer.

Karim Benzema - Okay, for a number of reasons, this one might be a long shot. Despite his advancing years, there remains plenty of goalscoring life in the Frenchman. Indeed, an impressive tally of 14 goals in 15 games this campaign have even earned him a dramatic recall to the international team. A strong relationship and understanding with none other than Ronaldo is a major pro here, but that devastating link came while the Portugal captain was still operating on the left-hand side in attacking quarters.

Dani Carvajal - Perhaps the most likely, or fitting, candidate for a Zidane reunion. Despite splashing out £50million on Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace in 2019, the Old Trafford giants have continually been linked with a move for Kieran Trippier to bolster their options at right-back. Should the former Real coach step in, may that pursuit see United look elsewhere in the Spanish capital? Under contract for another four seasons, the 29-year-old may be too expensive, though, given there are plenty of alternatives out there.

Toni Kroos - An absolute Rolls Royce in the engine room. Addressing central midfield is the elephant in the room at United right now, certainly when it comes to their transfer business, anyway. When moving from Bayern Munich at the peak of his and their powers, the Germany international proved that he is no stranger a challenge. Might he see the Premier League as one last division to conquer before calling time on his stellar career? Rumours have started in that regard - namely on the other side of this famous footballing city.

Isco - A similar age to Carvajal, the added bonus here is that - as things stand - there would be no fee for Isco as he becomes a free agent next summer. Of course, the Spaniard might eventually put pen to paper on a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, but in the event that he doesn't, there will be no shortage of takers. United are well-stocked for attacking players, you might argue, while the former Malaga player has become a bit-part option - with 166 minutes to show for his efforts this season.
