Four present rule is guaranteed to save you money on your Christmas shopping

As the nights get darker and people start to string up lights, you might have already begun thinking ahead to your Christmas shopping and loved one's presents.

But after an especially tough year, you probably don't want to spend too much money if you can help it. It's so easy to get swept up in the festivities and buy a bunch of gifts that people don't really need.

However, instead of aimlessly wandering around the shops over the next few months, there's a way to make Christmas shopping much simpler - you just have to follow the four present rule.

A number of parents online already swear by the gift-giving method.

So how does it the four present method work?

Instead of buying dozens of random things that will just clutter up the cupboards, you simply buy four things that will make for much more meaningful gifts.

The first present is something they want and the second is something they need.

The third is something to wear and the fourth is something to read.

Easy, right?! And it even rhymes, so you should have no trouble remembering the rule.

One mum shared the handy rule last Christmas on a Facebook page called, Quirky Momma, and her post went viral, with many people responding to say they were going to give it a go.

"I’m going with… something they wear, something to read and something to do. The Santa gift is something they want," commented a fellow parent.

A different user said: "Yes we have done that for the past three years, I love it. We also add one gift from Santa."

A third added: "We're going to do that this year. Trying to have a more minimalist Christmas with quality over quantity."

And the best part is that the rule also works perfectly for birthdays and other occasions as well as Christmas - so you can save money and time and get great gifts all year round.
