Four players who could still leave Tottenham in the new domestic transfer window

Tottenham avoided any transfer deadline day drama with Jose Mourinho completing his business with the loan signing of Carlos Vinicius earlier this week.

The Brazilian joins Spurs on a season long deal, tying up an impressive summer of business for Mourinho, with Gareth Bale, Sergio Regulion, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty and Joe Hart all arriving.

Mourinho did opt to send Ryan Sessegnon out on loan to Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, and with the EFL transfer window extended until October 16, he could send more young players out on loan.

We take a look at who could be on their way out of the club in search of regular football in the coming weeks.

Should Spurs win a trophy this season?

PAULO GAZZANIGA

Argentina international Gazzaniga was heavily linked with a deadline day move to Everton to challenge England stopper Jordan Pickford.

However, after the Toffees opted to bring in AS Roma keeper Robin Olsen, the move was derailed and he now looks set to stay in North London.

But with Joe Hart moving ahead of him as Mourinho’s Europa League keeper, he could be tempted to step down to a top half Championship club if he is guaranteed first team football.

JAPHET TANGANGA

Mourinho was a big fan of versatile defender Tanganga following his arrival at the club mid-way through last season, starting 10 games in all competitions in his debut senior season.

However, he is yet to feature in Premier League action in 2020-21 and the arrival of Doherty, and Serge Aurier’s upturn in form, means his right back path is blocked.

With Mourinho moving to a back four at the start of the new season, he could be handed a squad role as a rotating option for Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier, but he could move on if Mourinho wants him to play regularly in the coming months.

DENNIS CIRKIN

Full back Cirkin has developed a reputation as one of the brightest talents in the Spurs youth set up, with the England U18 international able to cover at both right and left back.

Mourinho will need to decide on how his development is best served in the coming campaign, with the potential he has already outgrown the level of competition on offer at U23 level.

He could see some first team action in the cup competitions this season, but a loan spell in the Championship will offer a testing ground for his future capability to play in the Premier League.

KAZAIAH STERLING

If Mourinho opts to follow the Troy Parrott model and loan out more young players, highly rated striker Sterling could move on next week.

However, a loan spell at Doncaster Rovers did not work out for him last season, and the club will be conscious of ensuring he has the right environment to develop in.

Parrott and Oliver Skipp’s loan moves, to Millwall and Norwich City respectively, were carefully assessed before being signed off and Spurs will be wary of damaging Sterling by sending him on another fruitless spell at the wrong club.
