Four people drive 160 miles from Southampton to Brecon Beacons for camping trip

Four people were stopped by police after travelling more than 150 miles from Southampton to go camping in the Brecon Beacons.

Officers from Brecon Roads Policing unit stopped the car on the A470 near Storey Arms on Sunday, June 7.

The occupants, one of whom police say was in possession of herbal cannabis, were "dealt with for breaching Covid-19 regulations", according to a statement from Dyfed-Powys Police on Twitter.

The four made the non-essential journey of approximately 160 miles from Southampton to go camping, breaking lockdown rules in Wales which say people should only travel within five miles, with some exceptions.

In another busy weekend for Dyfed-Powys Police, officers from Cross Hands found 100 bags of "cannabis plantation paraphinelia [sic]" dumped in Llannon near Tumble on Saturday, June 6.

The force released an image of an officer picking up one of the black bags that had been dumped at the edge of a field.

On Twitter the force said: "Cannabis plantation paraphinelia [sic] and approximately 100 bags have been dumped again in Llannon. If anyone has any information please contact Pc 19 in Cross Hands Police Station."

Last weekend, Dyfed-Powys Police said it had turned more than 1,000 cars away from a Welsh Beauty spot over one weekend - with many of the drivers were from across the border and said they weren't aware of the different rules around travel in England and Wales.

Earlier on Sunday, five people were stopped in a car after travelling more than 200 miles from Birmingham to Tenby so they could go for "a walk on the beach".

The Carmarthenshire Roads Policing unit said on Twitter: "After more than 10 weeks of continuous news coverage of lockdown, still a car of 5 thinks travelling from Birmingham for a walk on the beach at Tenby is acceptable! #Fined."
