Four people taken to hospital following collision in Easington Lane

Four people have been taken to hospital following a serious collision in Easington Lane.

Police say that none of the injuries sustained are thought to be life-threatening following the crash on Monday morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 8am after two vehicles collided on High Street.

The road was closed by police while they carried out investigations and the vehicles were recovered.

Paramedics attended and four people were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "At 8.22am today (Monday) we received a report of a two-vehicle collision on High Street, Easington Lane.

“Emergency services attended the scene and four people were taken to hospital.

“The road was closed as a clear-up operation took place but has since reopened. Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the collision.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service added: "We dispatched four double-crewed ambulances, a clinical care manager, a specialist paramedic and one of our Hazardous Area Response Teams.

"We were supported by a doctor on scene and four patients were transported to Sunderland Royal Hospital."
