Four people shot in Long Beach, 1 fatally; shooter at large

April 19--A 19-year-old man was killed and three others injured Monday night when a shooter opened fire in a Long Beach neighborhood.

Police responded to a report of shots fired at 8:43 p.m. in the 1200 block of East 17th Street and found four injured men, said Long Beach Police Sgt. Megan Zabel.

Long Beach police identified the dead man as Delhaun Jackson, according to a department news release.

Family members told KTLA that Jackson was the father of a 1-year-old boy.

The other three men injured in the shooting were taken to area hospitals, one in critical and two in stable condition.

The shooter was at large Tuesday morning, and police had no information about the person, Zabel said.

"Honestly, I don't know what the motive is," Zabel said. "We really don't know what happened."

Long Beach homicide detectives were at the scene throughout the night, she said. The men were shot outdoors in a neighborhood of single-family homes and apartment buildings. It was unclear, Zabel said, if the victims knew each other or the shooter.

"It's chaotic, when you have four victims," Zabel said. "There were a lot of people in the street, a lot of people upset. It's chaos. We're asking people what they saw, what they heard. We literally go door to door to door asking everybody if they saw anything."

Zabel said detectives have been speaking with the two hospitalized victims in stable condition, trying to determine what happened.

Zabel said investigators "really need the community's help" and stressed that the public can report tips anonymously.
