Four people rushed to hospital after horror Highland crash as drivers report 'absolute carnage'

Four people have been rushed to hospital following a horror crash in the Highlands today. The incident took place on the B9150 near the A9 at Newtonmore at around 11am.

Two vehicles were involved in the collision. Emergency services, including Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service, sped to the scene and four people were rushed to hospital.

Their condition is not yet known. Photos taken at the site, which were shared on social media, show the aftermath of the smash, with the bumper of one car appearing to have been completely destroyed in the incident.

The mechanical interior of the motor is completely exposed and debris is strewn across the grass verge nearby. Another image shows traffic at a complete standstill, with the crash causing 'absolute carnage' on the road.

The road was closed in both directions for around two hours while officers carried out enquiries into the event.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use an alternative route, with traffic being diverted locally, however those heading southbound faced a wait of up to 20 minutes. The road has since reopened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were called to reports of a two vehicle crash on the B9150 near the A9, Newtonmore at around 11am on Monday, 25 July, 2022.

"Emergency services attended and four people were taken to hospital."
