Four people rushed to hospital after car goes up in flames following crash on M80

Four people were rushed to hospital after a car went on fire following a crash on the M80 earlier today.

Emergency services raced to the slip road between Haggs interchange and the M80 northbound at around 10.10am after reports of a two-vehicle smash.

The crash involved a gold Ford Eco Sport and a black Audi A7. Two men and a woman were taken by Ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. Another man was taken by Ambulance to Forth Valley Royal Hospital.

Police are now appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

Constable Alastair Allan of the Road Policing Unit at Stirling said: “Our enquiries into the cause of this crash are ongoing.

“At this time I would urge any witnesses to crash, or anyone with information to contact us. If anyone who was driving in that area and has dash-cam footage, please get in touch. We are also keen to trace the driver of a white Audi who was driving on the off-slip from the motorway towards Haggs at the time as they may have information that will assist our enquiry.

“Anyone with information should contact 101 quoting reference number 0970 of 31 March."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.16am on Friday, March 31 to reports of a road traffic collision on the M80 Northbound.

"Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances to the scene, at junction seven, where firefighters were met by a collision involving two vehicles.

“Crews extinguished a fire which had taken hold of one of the vehicles and remained on scene for some time to make the area safe.

“Four casualties have been transported to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital by the Scottish Ambulance Service.”
