Four people rescued as burning properties evacuated in Weston-super-Mare

Firefighters rescued four people and asked others to leave as a fire took hold of two properties in Weston-super-Mare.

Fire crews from Weston, Winscombe, Clevedon and Kingswood all attended the blaze in North Lane at around 3am this morning (September 20).

Four people were rescued from one of the properties while 20 left the building in total.

Avon Fire and Rescue has confirmed the incident is ongoing and an investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out.

A fire service spokesperson said: "Crews from Weston, Winscombe, Clevedon and Kingswood fire stations were called to a fire affecting two properties.

"On arrival, firefighters used three 45ml jets and a turntable ladder to tackle the fire.

"They also rescued four people from the property and evacuated around 20 people.

"The cause is currently unknown and fire investigation will return to inspect the property.

"The incident is ongoing as crews continue to damp down."
