Four people injured after multi-vehicle crash on A197 in Northumberland

Four people have been injured after a serious multi-vehicle crash in Northumberland.

Emergency services were called to the A197 between Pegswood and Ashington to reports of the four-car collision on Thursday afternoon.

Firefighters from Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service helped some of the occupants from the cars and four people were taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: “We treated four patients. Two were taken to the RVI - one with head, chest and back injuries and the other with fractured bones, chest and pelvic injuries.

“Two other patients were taken to Cramlington Hospital - one with chest pains and the other with minor injuries.”

The incident, which involved a Nissan Micra, a Jaguar XE, a Ford Fiesta and a Seat Ibiza, closed the road in both directions as police investigated the scene.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said they were called to the incident at 2.20pm and closed the A197 between Pegswood Fire Station and Whorral Bank roundabout.

Drivers were asked to avoid the area while investigations took place.
