Police are investigating the deaths of four people whose bodies were found in a house in Clayton, Bradford.

The bodies of a married couple and their two teenage daughters were discovered by West Yorkshire police on Monday night after they were called to the property, a two-storey detached house, at 8.30pm.

They were named by police as Jitendra Lad, 49, his wife, Duksha Lad, 44, and their daughters, Trisha 19, and Nisha, 17.

Police have sealed off the area for a forensic investigation and said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

“Inquiries are at a very early stage, but police are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the inquiry,” a statement read.

Lorna Leeming, who sits on Clayton parish council, said: “It’s a very quiet and peaceful village and a good community.

“I don’t know what has happened or what has gone on.”

It is believed the deaths were a result of a domestic tragedy. Locals described them as “a lovely family”.

The large corner house in Clayton, a quiet suburb three miles (5km) west of Bradford, has been cordoned off and was being guarded by officers on Tuesday morning. Police are understood to be treating the property as a murder scene. While all lines of inquiry are currently under investigation, detectives suspect that one member of the family killed the others before killing themselves.

Sehaj Singh, 19, said he had known Trisha the older daughter for eight years and added she was in her second year at Leeds University. Describing her as a quiet girl, Singh said: “She was really nice. She was just one of those people who got on with things.”

Jessica Garside, 18, who went to nearby Thornton grammar school with the older girl, said of her friend: “She was a lovely person. Never bitchy, never said anything bad about anybody.”

One teenage girl laying flowers outside the house with her mother said she was friends with one of the girls. “She was a great girl and they were a lovely family,” said the mother, who declined to be named.

A neighbour in Blackberry Way tweeted: “Very sad. The family found dead in Clayton Bradford is on our street. Mum Dad and 2 teenage girls. Seemed lovely quiet family. So sad x”
