JABALPUR: Four officials were arrested for alleged embezzlement of funds under Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana (PMAY) in Niwari district.
Economic Offences Wing (EOW), Jabalpur arrested the two former chief executive officers of Jairon Khalsa civic body in Niwari district and two sub-engineers following a probe where they were found to be embezzling funds sanctioned for beneficiaries under PMAY. All the four were arrested and produced before court which sent them to judicial remand.
EOW, SP Jabalpur D S Rajput said, “Instructions were received from the government for probe into the PMAY scam at Jairon Khalsa civic body in Niwari district. It was found during the probe that names of 70 beneficiaries which was in the list issued by district collector were removed and 115 other names were added to the list. Of the total beneficiaries, 55 were provided the first instalment without geo tagging, 98 were provided Rs 30,000 instead of Rs 50,000 as the last instalment”.
After probe a case was registered against the then CEOs, Uma Shankar Mishra and Nawab Singh along with two sub-engineers, Srijan Gupta and Abhishek Singh, he said.
All the four were arrested and produced before court that sent them to judicial remand, he added. tnn
