Four new Omicron cases in Kerala, tally now 11

T’PURAM: Four more Omicron cases have been reported in the state, taking the total number of cases to 11.

Among the new four cases, two have been reported in Thiruvananthapuram, one each in Malappuram and Thrissur. The two cases reported in the state capital had come from the UK and Tunisia. The person who tested positive for Omicron in Malappuram had come from Tanzania, and the person in Thrissur had come from Kenya.

The 17-year-old had come from the UK on December 9 to Thiruvananthapuram along with his father, mother and sister. His grandmother has also come in the contact list of this person. The 44-year-old, who had come from Tunisia, had arrived on December 15 on a chartered flight. He tested positive at the airport itself.

The person in Malappuram is a Dakshina Kannada native and had reached the Kozhikode airport on December 13. He tested positive at the airport itself and was immediately shifted to an isolation ward.

The person in Thrissur had come from Kenya to Sharjah on December 11 and arrived in Kochi the following day. She tested positive on December 13. Her mother has also come under the contact list.

With people coming from non-high-risk countries testing positive for Omicron, the state health department has urged all those coming from abroad to maintain a 14-day quarantine at home. They have been requested not to visit any public places or crowded areas.

3,297 new cases: The state reported 3,297 new Covid cases from 52,570 samples tested in the last 24 hours. As many as 3,609 patients have recovered from the disease.

With 43 more deaths in the past few days being recorded as Covid deaths and 175 deaths added from the appeals received, the death toll in the state has climbed to 44,407.
