Four more people have died with coronavirus at Southmead Hospital and Bristol Royal Infirmary

The coronavirus death toll has risen by four at hospitals in Bristol.

A total of 56 people have died with Covid-19 at Southmead Hospital, according to figures released by NHS England yesterday (April 19).

That is an increase of three on the previous day.

The number of deaths at Bristol Royal Infirmary rose by one, reaching 55 in yesterday's update.

It means 111 people have died with coronavirus in Bristol hospitals, as of the latest figures.

Bath's Royal United Hospital has stayed at 44 deaths and Weston General Hospital at three.

In recent days we have shared tributes to four people who died with coronavirus in our area.

They are Bristol-based First Bus driver Hussen Mudei, Southmead Hospital healthcare assistant Maureen Ellington, Weston General Hospital worker Amarante Dias and former Bristol University lecturer John Adler.

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Bristol stands at 454, following an increase of 16 in Public Health England's announcement yesterday.

In South Gloucestershire, a further seven people tested positive, bringing that area's total to 263.

Another 14 cases have been confirmed in North Somerset, where the figure now stands at 159.

And in Bath and North East Somerset, five more people tested positive, with total confirmed cases reaching 166.

Across the UK there have been 16,060 deaths among 120,067 confirmed cases.

The true figures are thought to be much higher because only people with the most serious cases are being tested in hospital.
