Four more people have died in hospitals in Greater Manchester after contracting coronavirus.

Each day the NHS give an update on virus-related deaths at hospital trusts in England in the previous 24 hour period.

These are cases where a patient has died within 28 days of a positive test or where Covid-19 is mentioned on their death certificate.

Today four new deaths were announced at Greater Manchester hospitals.

Two occurred at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) which runs numerous hospitals in the city, and two by Pennine Acute who run several hospitals in the north of the region.

It brings the number of people who have died in hospitals in the region since the start of the pandemic to 5,858

In total, 33 new deaths were announced nationally, with eight occurring in the North West, seven in the East of England, six in the North East and Yorkshire, five in the Midlands, five in the South East and two in London.

The total number of coronavirus-related deaths at hospital trusts in Greater Manchester, as of Tuesday, April 13.

  • Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust - 581

  • The Christie NHS Foundation Trust - 28

  • Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust - 760
