Four more people die from coronavirus in the Bristol region

Another four people have died from coronavirus in and around Bristol as hundreds of new cases are discovered.

South Gloucestershire recorded two of the new deaths, meaning that 379 people have now died from Covid-19 in the area.

The remaining deaths occurred in Bristol and North Somerset, where there have now been 539 and 335 deaths respectively.

It now means that 1,491 people have now died from coronavirus in the Bristol region.

Today's update (published on October 8) showed that another 414 cases of the virus were recorded in the Bristol region.

The highest number of cases was found in Bristol, where 182 positive tests were found.

Bath and North East Somerset had the second-highest number of cases with 92. North Somerset recorded 79 cases while South Gloucestershire found a further 61 cases.

The Government said a further 127 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Friday, bringing the UK total to 137,541.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 161,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Friday, there had been a further 36,060 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.

Government data up to October 7 shows that of the 94,208,919 Covid jabs given in the UK, 49,101,734 were first doses, a rise of 33,029 on the previous day.

Some 45,107,185 were second doses, an increase of 28,656.

The total number of cases confirmed in each region around Bristol, with the daily rise in brackets, are as follows:

  • City of Bristol - 60,650 (+182)
  • North Somerset - 20,309 (+79)
  • South Gloucestershire - 30,901 (+61)
  • Bath and North East Somerset - 18,990 (+92)

  • City of Bristol - 539 (+1)
  • North Somerset - 335 (+1)
  • South Gloucestershire - 379 (+2)
  • Bath and North East Somerset - 238 (-)
