A possible vaccine developed at the University of Oxford has been tipped as the "front runner", with the first trial results being published.

The phase 1 and 2 tests had encouraging results and found the vaccine is safe, causes few side effects and induces a strong immune response. Researchers will now need to test the vaccine in different groups of people, including older age groups and those with other health conditions.

The UK Government says it has secured early access to 90 million vaccine doses from AstraZeneca. In addition, treatments containing Covid-19-neutralising antibodies have been secured to protect those who cannot receive vaccines.
