Four-month-old dog killed in Dublin hit and run with taxi in the early hours of Sunday morning

A dog owner in Dublin was left heartbroken when their four-month-old was brutally killed in a hit and run incident involving a taxi.

Coco, who was a full bread black Labrador, was run over by a taxi in the St. Anthony's Road area of Dublin 8 in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The owner was out walking the pet around 3:45am in Fatima.

A witness told Dublin Live that the taxi driver stopped to let the person and Coco cross the road but "when they were half way across, the taxi driver drove over the dog."

The witness said that the incident itself was completely accidental but that the driver realised that they had collided with something, stopped but then sped off.

Coco was on a 'long lead' when she was hit.

They said: "The driver flew off towards Fatima Luas stop after he noticed what happened to the dog.

"The owner chased the car until it went out of sight and came back to see some a woman with a blanket around the dog.

The witness added that a garda was on hand to look after the dog but sadly, it wasn't enough to keep her alive.

"A local garda, who happened to be in the area, pulled up out of the blue and actually took the dog over to the vet in DCU."

Coco was eventually put down because of the severity of the injuries.

The witness added: "It was probably an accident but the driver deliberately drove away after he noticed what he done."

The incident was reported to Kilmainham Garda Station and Dublin Live has reached out to Gardai for a comment.
