Four-month-old baby found dead at a house in Greater Manchester

A baby has been found dead at a home in Greater Manchester.

Police were called to a property on Buckley Lane, in Rochdale, in the early hours of Monday morning, where the four-month-old baby was found and pronounced dead at the scene.

A man, 39, and a woman, 27, were arrested on suspicion of child neglect and have since been released on bail as police continue their investigation.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called at around 3.15am on 22 February to a report of a sudden death on Buckley Lane in Rochdale.

"Emergency services attended but sadly a four-month-old baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A 27-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and bailed pending further enquiries.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances around the death."

It comes after a man was charged with murdering a nine-week-old baby in South Yorkshire earlier this month.

Leon Mathias, 32, from Barnsley, was accused of murder and wounding with intent over the death of a boy nearly two years ago.

Emergency services were called to a property in the Great Houghton area of Barnsley just before 9pm on November 30, 2018.

The infant was taken to hospital but died three days later.

South Yorkshire Police has said the boy’s family continues to be supported by specialist officers during this “incredibly difficult time”.
