Four minors among 6 arrested for murder of food delivery man

INDORE: Banganga police on Tuesday arrested six people, including four minors, and solved the blind murder of Zomato delivery boy, who was robbed and stabbed to death while he was on his way to deliver an order in a township.

A 20-year-old Zomato delivery boy Sunil Verma, resident of Rajgarh, was stabbed to death at a secluded under construction route which connects Karol Bagh to the main road. People use this short route to Kalindi township through Luv Kush square. Almost no CCTV footage and technical evidence in the murder led to Banganga police solving it using traditional practices. More than 80 footages were searched and over 60 habitual offenders and 450 locals were questioned for 11 days.

“Even after sifting through 80 footage, we were not able to find any accused but the victim was seen going towards Aurobindo Hospital. It was then that we decided to pin-point the timing of the murder and used public switched telephone network (PSTN) data of the accused in that area at that particular time,” said Additional DCP Rajesh Raghuwanshi.

The officials added that even then they were not able to get any leads in the case. It was later that the officials realized that if no footage of the accused or their vehicles were found, it was possible that they were on foot or resided very near to the crime scene.

Police came across a vegetable seller, who told them that Vishal and Arjun were not able to sleep in their own houses because they had some ‘problems’.

One of the accused, a minor, was arrested immediately after the information at a pushcart on the same road. He accepted committing crime along with his friends Vishal Mevadi, Arjun Gurdat, residents of Kankad Bhorasla and three other minors. They said that Sunil resisted the loot bid after which he was stabbeD by Vishal and he stole his purse which had Rs 4,000 cash which was divided among the accused. The weapon used to commit the crime was seized from accused Vishal.
