Four men get Covid fines after driving from Bristol to 'buy a motorbike' in Gloucestershire

Four men have given Covid fines for driving from Bristol to Gloucestershire to 'buy a motorbike'.

Police said they were all from different households and officers questioned whether the journey was essential.

Under lockdown rules, you are only supposed to leave your house for essential purposes – such as shopping, work if you can’t work from home, or for medical or emergency reasons.

Officers also said the driver of the Golf had no insurance, and none of the four men had a bike helmet.

The tweet said: "The four men in this Golf told PC Robinson that they'd driven from Bristol to Uley to buy a motorbike. Essential?"

This “put paid to their days motoring”, officers said in a tweet and, using hashtags, said: “Easy Rider? More like On The Buses.”

And the tweet from the Stroud Police account added: “As all four men were from different households each was issued with a fine for breaching the coronavirus regulations.”

Covid fines are regularly handed out by police to people who have driven too far on non-essential journeys, with people visiting beauty spots in the Cotswolds regularly being caught.

A roadmap out of lockdown is expected to be announced by the Prime Minister on Monday.
