Four men charged with leaving pigs' heads outside east London schools

Four people have been charged with hate offences after pigs’ heads were allegedly left outside schools and a youth centre in east London last month.

The heads were allegedly left outside two schools in Rainham’s Harris Academy on Lambs Lane South and a school on Upminister’s Road South on July 26.

The Royals Youth Centre in Rainham's Viking Way was also allegedly targeted. Islamophobic graffiti was also allegedly sprayed at the venues.

Four people from Brentwood, Essex, were charged on Friday with racially aggravated criminal damage, Metropolitan Police said.

Harvey Wells, 20, of Springfield Aveue and James Desbois, 29, of Cricketers Lane, will appear at Barkingside Magistrates Court on Friday, August 9.

Also due to appear are Josh Campbell, 23 and Jazim Jones, 30, both of Woodland Avenue.

Met Supt Simon Hutchison previously said the incidents were being treated as Islamophobic hate crimes.

Officers pledged additional patrols in the area following the incidents.
