Four men have been charged with drug offences after police raids targeting drug use and supply in Tower Hamlets.

Officers from Met’s Gangs Task Force executed warrants at five residential properties in Tower Hamlets and one in Peckham on Wednesday morning.

Four people have since been charged with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

Leban Abdi, 25, of Saxon Road, Tower Hamlets, was charged with conspiracy to supply crack cocaine and heroin. He was also charged with being concerned in the supply of cannabis, a Class B drug.

Suraj Sanusi, 19, of Aqua Vista Square, Tower Hamlets, was charged with conspiracy to supply crack cocaine and heroin.

Hany Hanoon, 39, of Haymerle Road, Peckham, was charged with conspiracy to supply crack cocaine and heroin.

Gary Byfield, 40, of Whitton Walk, Tower Hamlets, was also charged with conspiracy to supply crack cocaine and heroin.

They appeared in custody at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, December 1.

Abdi and Sanusi were remanded in custody and Hanoon and Byfield were bailed to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Wednesday, January 4.

The raids were carried out as part of Operation Continuum, which police say is responding to reports of drug supply, drug use and associated criminality in Hackney and Tower Hamlets.

Since March this year, there have been 93 arrests under the operation, and more than 150 charges for drugs supply offences, said police. 95 warrants have been executed.

Patrols from the local Safer Neighbourhood Team were conducting patrols in the areas of the warrants Thursday to “provide reassurance” and “engage with those using drugs and refer them into treatment”.
