Four men were caught trying to break into a prison late at night.
Shortly before 10pm, on Tuesday, police were called to HMP Hindley in Wigan.
Officers were told that a group of men had been "acting suspiciously" and were trying to get into the grounds of the jail.
When police arrived at the scene, the men ran off and tried to get away from the area.
A force helicopter was sent to the prison to help with the search for the men before the group were arrested a short time later.
According to Manchester Evening News, the men aged 49, 45, 32 and 26 were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and conspiracy to supply controlled drugs.
They remain in custody for questioning.
Officers also discovered a discarded bag containing drugs and mobile phones, believed to be contraband.
The items have since been taken for forensic examination.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing police arrest a number of men outside Leyland Park, not far from the prison.

HMP Hindley is a young offenders and adult male Category C prison which can house more than 600 inmates.
